Christmas Carp

I am now exactly in the middle of the Post-Christmas, Pre-New Year slump. I have eaten an obscene amount of chocolate, played computer games and watched action films. Despite being in a different country, this Christmas has felt closer to the ones I remember from childhood than any adult Christmas. Therefore it has been highly enjoyable. I am trying to use my idle time constructively, reading some classics and leaning Polish but mostly, as I said, Its chocolate, films and games.

My wife managed to make our house smell like my mum's cooking during Christmas and I even found the strength to stomach my Christmas Carp. Like the U.K. Poles feel the need to cook a tasteless animal to celebrate the birth of Jesus only instead of Turkey, it's Carp.

I have missed my family, and for some time I wished I made the effort to travel back to the U.K. but I found out my mum was working Christmas day (This is a new occurrence due to her new job) so if I had gone back to England my Christmas probably would not have felt like the old school Christmas it has here in Polska. Especially considering my parents and siblings had most of Christmas day on boxing day (That never happened as a child).

But as we approach the new year and, because of this idle time I have as lessons have slowed down, I am beginning to think of the past decade. It is the first decade I experienced mostly as an adult and what do I have t show for it? well, quite a lot when I think about it. I naturally seem to feel that I am not doing enough with my life when I realise I don't own a Aston Martin or wield the influence of a politician but when I apply my mind I realise and accept I have achieved a big deal in the past decade, so bring on the next one!
