Ok, it's been between -15 and -20 all week, so what lessons have I learnt...
Shoes - My advice is to buy a pair of trainers with thick soles and buy a pair that are slightly too big. Then buy loads of socks.
If you wear the socks in layers alongside the thick sole your feet will be toasty and you will have the advantage of being able to change your damp socks whenever you need. This is the key factor, water and damp makes the cold a lot worse! You might have some fancy winter boots but as soon as the insides are damp (and they will be if your outside all day) your in trouble, my alternative is cheaper and practical.
Also, nothing grips like trainer soles, I know. I haven't fallen over once so far in these icy conditions an I attribute this to the soles of my trainers.... trust me!
Get the right gear on your feet, wear a hat and some gloves and your sorted.
