It’s a busy time of year for me, as my
place of work requires me to construct a year long syllabus and teaching plan
to satisfy the Polish education inspectors. This year I have a small mountain
to climb as I must produce the syllabus in both Polish and English – what’s
more, to satisfy the government inspectors I have to ensure my syllabus contain
the following verbs...
dobierać - select
formułować - formulate
nazywać - name
objaśniać - explain
odtwarzać - reproduce
opisać - describe
podsumować - summarise
rozpoznać - recognise
rozpoznawać - identify
rozróżniać - distinguish
scharakteryzować - describe/characterise
wskazać - identify
wybrać - select
wyliczać - enumerate
wymieniać - share
zaproponować - propose
These are of course, my personal translations (or how I 'feel' the word in my head) so I'm welcome to any comments.
But I think this list is a useful way to give yourself the ability to describe your teaching in an academic interview or review (or indeed syllabus writing).
So get learning!
The Polish syllabus is cool! In fact it's just like a well construsted Polish lesson! Good luck and I'm enjoying your blog. Regards, Rose
ReplyDeleteWymieniać also can mean sth like enumerate (I don't really know good English translation).
ReplyDeleteLike in "Wymień wszystkich prezydentów USA".
Ok, I know wymienić can be translated as "mention".
ReplyDeleteLike in: He'd mentioned you in his speech.
Anyway - details, all your translations are good, sometimes they are not the only meanings.
Most institutions/teachers simply regurgitate the syllabus from the year before. Can't you do the same?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the positive comments @rose and @ajuc cheers for your input, and yes, I agree :)
ReplyDelete@jeremy - you know, last year we didn't really have to write a frame syllabus but I did a pretty thorough one anyhow, what we did need to do is merely write a very brief plan for each lesson (no more than one line)
ReplyDeletethis year it's a lot more demanding!
so yeah, I'll regurgitate a lot but now I'll have to translate it and shove those verbs in!
ReplyDeleteWoo! Writing a syllabus in Polish is very impressive indeed! Hats off to you sir.
