'Ok' I thought...
'And they are all for free' my friend replied.
After the utterance 'free', my ears were pricked and a new found energy bounded through my legs. I was then informed that tonight (14th May) was 'Noc Muzeów' where many instiutions in Wrocław open their doors to the members of the public until midnight for the alluring price of zilch.
Free culture = bargain
There were 20 institutions, of which I only managed to visit 5. To be honest, the event was so popular, it was a little too crowded in most places but I guess it created a quasi-fantastic atmosphere to have so much energy in a museum! A particular nice touch to the whole evening: Free buses arranged to help people travel around the city, another bargain.
This whole idea was the brainchild of the city of Berlin in 1997 (titled 'Lange Nacht der Museen') but has since been adopted by many institutions all over the world.
Here's a few interesting links to other 'Long night of Museums' in Europe.
Museums at Night (U.K.)
Noc Muzeów (PL)
Lange Nacht der Museen (Ger)
Prażska muzejni noc (Czech)
Did anybody else visit such a night? either here in Polska or somewhere more distant?
Thanks for highlighting this program. I hope to be in Prague for next year's event.
