As a kid and teen I loved my heavy metal music. Maiden and 'Talica ruled my life, so much in fact that I was secretary of a large University heavy metal society (although you wouldn't believe me to look at it).
But as I've got older my music tastes have matured and from my roots to it's roots I've always been interested in Dubstep. This musical genre based on heavy basslines and clever sampling almost evolved in front of my eyes during the live music scene at my uni in 2005-2006. Now this completely new genre is beginning to enter the mainstream with interesting collaborations between more popular artists Sucha as Rihanna, Britney Spears and Snoop Dogg in the pipeline.
I love Dubstep because it feels like I'm witnessing the future of music unwrap before me eyes... Check out these links...
Katy B - Katy on a mission
Nero - Innocence
Freestylers - Cracks (Dubstep mix)
Radikal Guru (Polish Dubstep)
Blinded by the lights (Dubstep mix)
And the great thing is, all of my Matura students are addicted to dubstep and treat me as the font of all knowledge during lessons - It pays to be cool ;)
Nice one our Kid
ReplyDeleteWHAT ABOUT THE GRIME! You forgot the grime!
ReplyDeleteI dont understand it. I feel old :(
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that it pays to make an effort to learn and show an interest in what younger people like. It's more enjoyable for the students to have a lesson based around 'Freestylers' than Bon jovi.
ReplyDeleteThanks for these. I hadn't heard of dubstep before, but found that it is similar to a lot of music I have anyway. Did you know that Radikal/Radical Guru is Polish?
ReplyDeleteI certainly did, he rocks! unfortunately he doesn't seem to be playing near me anytime soon :(
ReplyDeleteMore of a DnB man myself but I remember standing next to the Roll Deep Crew listening to The Bug back in '05... did I drop enough names there?>
ReplyDeleteNice one Paddy ;)
ReplyDeleteHave to say Dubstep has its good points and bad bad being the countless bad remixes of bad songs to begin with Nero is good must agree with paddy DnB always six six six million ways
